Font of the Week: Fira Sans

In a time when Firefox OS is growing adolescent, I take the opportunity to introduce you to its default font: Fira Sans.

Background

Fira Sans is based on an older font called FF Meta, also by the same designer. FF Meta is used in the logos of Mozilla Foundation and its products, and now they came up with Fira Sans for their mobile OS. Like any modern multipurpose font, it is designed to work well at all sizes and weights.

Usage

The medium-weight variant is suitable for logos and posters, while the light one works great for web headings. Fira isn’t the best font for documents.

Fire! Fire!

Next two weeks, I’ll do a special breed of monospace fonts for a change. Stay tuned.
